Traces the history of relations between the Evangelic Church of Wurttemburg & German political & military authority 1903-WWII, reflecting the content of the "Mit Gott fur Volk und Vaterland" (With God for Our People and Fatherland) exhibition held in 1995 at the Landeskirchliches Museum in Ludwigsburg. Four periods are discussed: the state of grace during the Empire, troubled relations during the Weimar Republic, Nazi indoctrination after 1933, & collapse & slow reconstruction during & after WWII. During these periods, the state church's approach to secular authority has varied from complete collusion to critical distance. Slowly, the idea that submission does not necessarily correspond with divine will has emerged. Current relations emphasize ethics & responsibility. Adapted from the source document.
