- This article is about the Hannah Arendt's 1957 book Rahel Varnhagen: The Life of a Jewess, the biography of an 18th amd 19th century intellectual, & the role that existential philosophy played in its creation. The book follows an abstract form, & is not necessarily historically accurate at all times, & came under much criticism. However, by following the life of Rahel Varnhagen, Arendt was able to transmit the notion of exemplarity, & give the reader a greater understanding of Jewish identity. References. C. Adcock
