• To address the current need to accelerate rural housing development in Nigeria, it is suggested that existing agricultural surplus be converted into monetary value, & invested in rural housing. The current condition & problems of rural housing development are examined based on statistical data from NISER (acronym not defined) & a 1982 Rural Housing Survey (N not provided). It is argued that the image of Nigerian farmers living at subsistence level & unable to save is false. A structure for produce marketing should be designed & implemented with cooperation of a rural barefoot banking system, drawing on the successful experiences with such systems in other developing countries.
