Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • An investigation of the relationship between life satisfaction & sex-role concept. Data were gathered through administration of a two-part questionnaire (consisting of the Life Satisfaction Survey, & the Bem Sex-Role Inventory) to undergraduates in adult education classes, a graduate class, & a Presbyterian church group. General satisfaction with life was found to be a function of the level of satisfaction derived from various aspects of life, particularly those chosen as the most important. Consistent with previous studies, general satisfaction with life was found to be positively associated with education level, income level, & being married. In contrast to previous findings, age was not negatively correlated with overall satisfaction, & a significant difference between Ms & Fs showed up. As predicted, sex-role concept was found to be a useful construct in explaining the differential importance of various domains of life as well as the relative contribution of those domains to overall satisfaction with life. Psychologically masculine people choose as important & enjoy the instrumental aspects of life more; psychologically feminine people choose as important & enjoy the socioemotional aspects of life more; psychologically androgynous people choose as important & enjoy both the instrumental & socioemotional aspects of life more. 2 Tables, 23 References. Modified AA.
