• Distinguishes between the five main sociological research approaches to alcoholism. The functionalist analysis emphasizes the social role of drinking behavior. The sociocultural approach examines attitudes toward drinking in different cultures. The sociographic approach studies the impact of various demographic variables (gender, age, ethnicity) on drinking practices, in contrast to symbolic interactionism, which focuses on alcoholic individuals' experiences with alcohol & problems with the communal reactions to their drinking behavior.
