Attempts to build and examine kinship relationships in the Camp Trad area of Borj Hammoud, an urban working-class environment in Beirut, Lebanon, confirm that men and women are trapped in 'patriarchal connectivity.' The idea that men are less relationally oriented than women confirms that age and gender defined connectivity in Camp Trad. Western psychodynamic theory does not explain the kinship and gender institutions of other societies, especially in providing information on the limits and opportunities that Arab men and women face in their personal life.
