A reconstruction of the early phase of Karl Marx's evaluation of scientific & technological progress in the framework of social & philosophical values. By 1845, Marx had gained an appreciation of the dialectical processes characteristic of capitalism. However, his analysis remained incomplete because he had not yet discovered the concept of alienation as the essence of capitalist labor relations. Science & technology, according to Marx, were objective features determining man's personality along with such factors as material, political-ideological, intellectual-cultural, & social-psychological conditions. As such, science & technology establish the groundwork for the eventual transition to communism. 12 References. G. Prostakov
