Supply-side tax cutting in the US not only lowers government revenues, but also provides a justification for cutting domestic welfare programs. Domestic cutbacks, in turn, are achieved by transferring federal social welfare responsibility to the states, thus eroding political support for these programs. Reaganomics is viewed as part of a broader response to current economic conditions that involves redirecting larger amounts of capital into the private sector & weakening the political strength of women, minorities, & organized labor.
