Ratings of psychiatric illness by patient, family physician, & a research psychiatrist are compared for 182 patients treated in 7 Philadelphia family practices. Patient & research psychiatrist ratings achieved the highest level of agreement (50% of variance). Treating physicians showed the greatest variability of ratings. Least agreement appeared for a practice with upper middle class patients; most for one with ghetto, inner-city patients. 2 Tables. Modified HA.
