(2) GOUVERNES ET GOUVERNANTS. RECUEIL DE LA SOCIETE JEAN-BODIN POUR L'HISTOIRE COMPARATIVE DES INSTITUTIONS (Governed and Governors. Collection of the Jean-Bodin Society for the Comparative History of Institutions, Vol's XXIII, XXIV, XXV, XXVI, XXVII, Brussels, Editions de la Librairie Encyclopedique, 1965-1968); papers from the 1962 colloquium in Brussels, on a great variety of subjects. (3) L. Huyse, L'APATHIE POLITIQUE (Political Apathy, Anvers-Brussels, Editions Erasme, 1969); a survey conducted on the basis of a questionnaire admin'ed to 468 Belgian voters. (4) Marcel Prelot & F. Galloudec Genuys, LE LIBERALISME CATHOLIQUE (Catholic Liberalism, Paris, Armand Colin, 1969); a work that combines commentary with selections from texts ranging from the Baron d'Eckstein to The 2nd Vatican Council. (5) K. Marx & F. Engels ECRITS SUR LE TSARISME ET LA COMMUNE RUSSE (Writings on Czarism and the Russian Commune; Geneva, Droz, 1969); important for showing the Russophobia of the 2 founders of Marxism, as well as the success of their doctrine in Russia among the the intelligentsia. (6) Jacques-Michel Dupuit, DES STRUCTURES POUR LA FRANCE (Structures for France, Paris, Futuribles, S.E.D.E.I.S., 1969); bold suggestions, a mixture of forecast & prescription. (7) Marcel Rocques, Y A-T-IL UNE GAUCHE AUX ETATS UNIS? (Is There a Left in the United States? Paris, Editions Sociales, 1969). (8) Eric Gaument, LE MYTHE AMERICAIN (The American Myth, Paris, Editions Sociales, 1970); 2 works of useful documentation somewhat spoiled by polemics & propaganda. (9) Roger Cornu & Janina Lagneau, HIERARCHIES ET CLASSES SOCIALES (Hierarchies and Social Classes, Collection of Texts, Paris, A. Colin, 1969); not at all complete, since for instance there are a dozen Marxist texts & no mention of A. Comte. (10) ROMANTISME ET POLITIQUE (Romanticism and Politics, Colloquium of the Ecole Normale Suerieure de Saint-Cloud, 1966, Paris, A. Colin, 1969); an interesting collection, more for historians & historians of literature than for sociol'ts. (11) Augen Weber, ACTION FRANCAISE (French Action, Stanford U Press, 1962); the paperback of the French translation. (12) POLITICS, PERSONALITY AND SOCIAL SCIENCE IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. ESSAYS IN HONOR OF HAROLD D. LASSWELL, Arnold A. Rozow, Ed (Chicago, U of Chicago Press, 1969); reveals not only the personality of Lasswell, but many present tendencies in Amer res. (13) SOCIAL SCIENTISTS AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS: A CASE FOR A SOCIOLOGY OF SOCIAL SCIENCE, Elisabeth T. Crawford & Albert D. Biderman, Ed's (New York, John Wiley & Sons, 1969); the contributions study the relations between sociol'ts & the federal gov in internat'l affairs since the beginning of WWII; Georgette Elgey, LA REPUBLIQUE DES ILLUSIONS (1945-1951) (The Republic of Illusions, 1945-1951, Paris, Fayard, 1965); LA REPUBLIQUE DES CONTRADICTIONS (1951-1954) (The Republic of Contradictions, 1951-1954, Paris, Fayard, 1968); the virtues & defects of these 2 works are equally outstanding: as readable & fascinating history they are excellent, while as objective studies they fall short.
