• Marxism has been distorted in 3 ways in the framework of bourgeois historiography from 1860 to 1960. This distortion is characterized by several features: (1) transformation of dialectic & historical materialism, (2) detachment of Marxist philosophy from the development of philosophy, & (3) anticommunist criticism, aimed at reducing Marxism to a consequence of the theories of Kant, Hegel, anthropology, & eschatology. Marxist philosophy, as defined in the Parisian 'commune', is put on a par with vulgar materialism, or considered as a consequence of Hegel's theories. During the evolution of imperialism the view of Marxism was widened, but not more highly valued. New Kantianism, phenomenology, critical realism, revisionism, naturalist materialism, & racism directed their controversial pamphlets against Marxism. Following the revolution of Oct 1917, negative attitudes toward philosophical materialism & revolutionary dialectics developed into a general principle of historiography of philosophy. Irrationalism & historical pessimism criticized Marxism. Since 1945 Marxism has been fundamentally distorted by permanent misconceptions of materialism & the tendency to connect philosophy with practice & with social revolutions. The historiography of philosophy was distorted into hermeneutics & historical positivism, which, in the framework of bourgeois historiography of philosophy, prevents a valuable philosophical & historical representation of Marxism-Leninism.
