  • This article analyzes informal power in international relations by examining the case of the World Economic Forum (WEF). It argues that the informal power of a transnational elite club is bounded by the concrete modalities of their practice & organizational principles. By assuming that they de facto involve a high constituency of power, the paper proposes to shift the focus of investigation away from a search for evidence of power towards a perspective that could be defined as a hermeneutics of limits. Building upon the concept of social myth forged by Georges Sorel, it posits that the separation of transnational elite clubs from the public sphere constitutes both their strength & their weakness.
