Responds to Andreas Wagener's (2002) critique of the author's "Why Was Athens a Democracy?" by discussing criticism of the utilized definition of democracy, as well as the three more formal criticisms regarding application of the model to alternative situations. The author agrees that additional clarification with respect to the definition of democracy & the exogenous parameter applied in the model should have been included to achieve the desired readability of the text, but dismisses the more formal criticism as the result of a simplified representation that, with respect to the presented question, would not affect the overall results. However, the critique also raised the possibility of further application of the model, & as this debate may improve the accuracy & understanding of the work, fulfilled a greater purpose. L. Kehl
