Critical remarks on the notion of nat'l 'Sch's' in sociol are presented, & it is believed that if it is necessary to speak in terms of 'Sch's' of sociol, the criteria of definition should be diff's in character, training, ideological orientation & style of thought rather than nat'l diff's. Regional diversities & ideological oppositions are found within countries as well as among them. Some Swiss sociol'ts mentioned & briefly discussed include J. Piaget & F. de Saussure; sociol'ts connected with Switzerland in some way include V. Pareto & R. Michels. Most work in Switzerland has been done in the sociol of educ, esp re staff shortages & the democratization of educ. Pol'al sociol is discussed as part of a larger whole composed of it & pol'al sci. The diversity of the country is an important asset in this field. Other work being done is in the fields of Ur'ism & area planning, the problems posed by migration re the SM of both foreigners & the Swiss pop. Special problems faced by the development of sociol in a small, multi-cultural country are considered. While financial support is present, there is a severe limit on human resources. The solution to part of this problem is seen to be in a 'more active policy of internat'l exchange of intellectuals.' (See also SA 0206/ D6715.) Modified AA.
