• There are 2 methods of study: (1) the description of variables & forms of group processes as such, without concern for effects, & (2) the bypassing of a precise understanding of group processes, emphasizing 'output' instead - the measurable & comparable effect of the group. The gruppenfertigungsversuch developed by Scharmann attempts to unite both methods, by giving an ad hoc group (of 5-7 S's) the task of creating within a 2 hr period a program for the building & packing of simple objects, with a minimal use of of material. 2 groups are always in competition with each other. With competition there appears a socio-psychol'al motive. Analysis is made using R. F. Bale's categories. AA tr by L. P. Chall.
