Beschreibungen/Notizen
A study of behavioral adjustment among 300 US Indians who voluntarily relocated to a large southwestern city under the auspices of the Bur of Indian Affairs, Employment Assistance Branch. 3 tribes-Navajo, Sioux, & Choctaw-were represented in the study. Behavior was rated on a 5-point scale by 3 judges working from information extracted from case files. Adaptive behavior appeared more frequently among the Navajo, followed in order by the Choctaw & Sioux, with diff's more sharply pronounced among F's than among M's. A low degree of Indian inheritance was related to adjustment among the Sioux, but not among the Choctaw (the Navajo were fullbloods). Younger M's tended to show better adjustment than older ones, esp among the Navajo. Arrests prior to relocation and military experience were -r'ed to adjustment. The negative influence of military experience was most marked for persons with less than 2 yrs duty. The relatively better showing of the Navajo is not explicable on the basis of acculturation diff's. AA.
