  • A summary of some results of a longitudinal study of the Sociol'al Res Center of the U of Geneva on SM in educ of M & F S's in Geneva, who were observed from the ages of 12 to 20. Findings discussed here are presented in the Center's analysis for further studies of projected occup's of adolescents of 15 yrs of age. About 1000 M's & F's (an approximate cross section of this age group) were given E1's. 2 yrs later, when the S's were 17 yrs old, their activities were compared with their plans. Almost all the UMc & Uc children planned to stay at a high SL, while LMc & Lc children usually hoped to climb one or more degrees on the soc scale. 30% of workers' sons hoped to belong to the professions or semi-professions. At 17 yrs of age, 86% of the S's were engaged in training which was compatible with their career plans. One explanation for these SM trends is that there is a large number of foreign workers (mostly Italians) who are willing to accept less skilled work. AA.
