• The article addresses several issues related to circular (temporary) mobility. This type of mobility does not fit traditional definitions of migration predominantly defined in terms of permanent settlement phenomenon. However, the traditional approach does not take into consideration many important aspects of spatial mobility, for example labor migration. The aim of this article is, thus, to demonstrate the importance of circular mobility in contemporary social life & to present its distinct features. Selected explanatory models will be presented & discussed within the framework of the most influential theories. The emphasis will be placed on models referring to sociocultural factors, the modernization process, families' economic strategies & social capital (networks). Furthermore, selected aspects of the consequences of circular mobility on migrants & local communities will be discussed. The conclusions enrich the article with reflections on contemporary Polish mobility. It is evident that in the transition period (1990s) this mobility should be analyzed with the use of the concept of circular (temporary) mobility & can exemplify most of the ideas presented in the article. 50 References.
