• Presents analytic material based on statistics & interviews related to chronicles of market reform in the making of a rich post-Soviet collective farm in the south of Russia. Personal leadership is scrutinized in transformations affecting this local rural community. The influence of historical heritage is seen in the making of a new property institution, as well as in the differentiation among inhabitants. Typical verbal reservations, silencing, & paradoxes are demonstrated to convey actors' understandings of the local situation.
