• There is no idea of sickness & health that would be the same for all people. Different ways of understanding sickness & health are directly connected with conditions & relationships in a society, & with the behavior of a group or an individual. Sociological research of sickness & health deals with social factors that can influence the course & result of various diseases. The aim of observing social conditions is to discover conditions of human life that could improve health & prevent disease. Medical sociology has developed research methods to discern the conditions, development, & projections of a society. There is need of a sociological theoretical-methodological approach that would correspond to economic, cultural, legal, ethnic, & political changes in Croatia on the verge of the 21st century. Croatian medical sociologists should use the rich experience of Western countries, the US, in particular, to observe the conditions of health in a transitional society dominated by conflicts, drastic differentiation, marginalization of a great part of the society, & nemesis. 63 References.
