  • Economists in Cambridge: a Study through their Correspondence, 1907-1946, edited by M.C. Marcuzzo and A. Rosselli, is reviewed. This book offers an innovative way to approach writing the history of a community of economiststhrough a systematic analysis of their correspondence. The statistical analysis offered in the three tables (pp. 1618) makes clear its scope. There are 2855 letters, written between 10 correspondents, of which 2055 are unpublished. The editors discuss their choice of correspondents, and the need to balance comprehensiveness against the fact that the number of potential interactions rises roughly with the square of the number of correspondentsthe precise formula is (n2 2 n)/2. Each chapter contains a list of all the relevant letters, with their dates, the location of the archive in which they can be found and, for those that have been published, the place of publication.
