Frederick Klaeber, in his study and translation of "Beowulf," seems to have imposed concepts and relationships on the text--particularly in the areas of kingship, family and gender roles--that cannot be found in the source text or the source culture. The expectations and suppositions that Klaeber brings to the text about gender roles and sexual characteristics are strongly manifested in his presentation of Wealhtheow.
