This article uses Roger Brubaker's notion of nationalizing nationalism to analyse Vladimír and Andrej Ferko's nationalist conception of Slovak tinkers in works from the 1970s to the 1990s. Tinkers, particularly from Vel'ké Rovné, became a centre of Slovak internationalism whose impact on the world has ranged from Lenin's public-address barrel to the supermarket trolley. The article places the Ferkos' works in the context of Slovak nationalism of the 1990s and among the conclusions it comes to is that the new nationalizing nationalism began in the 1970s, not after 1989.
