  • [...]in 2022 the organization convened a Residency Curriculum and Assessment Review task force to identify an optimal curriculum for the future by considering what a graduate of psychiatric training will need to know and do to best meet the needs of the USA in 2040. The task force generated these considerations through 13 1-h meetings between July 29, 2022, and September 18, 2023; literature review; audience-response system answers and comments from 115 AADPRT members who attended a presidential symposium on this topic at the annual meeting on March 4, 2023; and feedback from 10 members who attended a small-group AADPRT virtual workshop on October 6, 2023. Psychotherapy training allows residents to bring empathy and alliance-building skills into all encounters, deliver evidence-based treatments, and supervise and collaborate with colleagues who deliver psychotherapy [4]. [...]the task force considers psychotherapy training an essential part of psychiatry residency education. Increasingly, psychiatrists will need to help individuals and communities respond to mental health sequelae of disasters resulting from factors such as gun violence and climate change.
