  • The double-blind study design, including randomisation minimised by transplantation centre, reduced potential bias from variation in decisions about dialysis between investigators. [...]we believe this was unlikely to have occurred as the between-group differences were modest, and the substantial individual variation in these parameters would have made group identification difficult and unreliable at an individual participant level. The observed rates of DGF in BEST-Fluids (30% balanced crystalloid, 40% saline) fall within reported ranges in studies and registry reports of deceased donor transplantation, which include both circulatory and neurological death donors (30–50%).4–6 In addition to ischaemic time, variations in DGF incidence reflect differences in donor age, proportions of expanded criteria and donation after circulatory determination of death (DCDD) donors, the use of machine perfusion, and other factors.
