  • The nature of the gold mineralization known in the Niaqornaarsuk Peninsula makes for a difficult exploration target. This compilation of all the available geochemical information for the study area serves to demonstrate the significance of geochemical sampling media. The following deductions can be made from the data. A weak cluster of Au - Bi(- Cu) occurs in rock samples and one of Au - As is identifiable from heavy mineral concentrates (HMC) samples. Na correlates well with Au in hydrothermally altered granitoid wallrocks, the cause of which is albitization. The HMC samples and the sediment samples were collected at the top of scree cones, which were found to be a good choice of sampling sites. The geochemistry of the sediments revealed good mineralized trends. The important gold anomalies in the rock samples occur on NNW-SSE trends, transecting both topography and lithology. These lineaments were not recognized previously and may serve as a guide for future exploration in the area. (Abstract quotes from original text)
