More than 1300 years ago, the physician Sun Simiao, who is known as “China's King of Medicine”, described in On the Absolute Sincerity of Great Physicians (often called the Chinese Hippocratic Oath) that a great physician must develop a heart full of great compassion and empathy and vow to alleviate suffering.1 Today, despite the rapid growth of cutting-edge technology in medicine, the core values of being a great physician in China remain as Sun Simiao defined. What changes have you experienced in the past decade in terms of connection and communication between health professionals and patients? Anyone who works in a health-related field, at any career stage, can enter the Wakley–Wu Lien Teh Prize competition, and you can be a doctor, a nurse, a medical student, or a public health professional, among other roles.
