  • Chronic active Epstein–Barr virus (CAEBV) enteritis is a rare disease that has not been well described. Owing to the similarities between CAEBV enteritis and inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, it is easy to be misdiagnosed and mistreated in clinical practice, resulted in complications and even death in severe cases. Through a literature review, this study aimed to summarize the clinical characteristics, pathological features, examinations, and treatment strategies of CAEBV enteritis and its similarities and differences with inflammatory bowel diseases. Chronic active Epstein–Barr virus (CAEBV) enteritis is a rare disease with limited data. In this study we reviewed the clinical and pathological characteristics of CAEBV enteritis, as well as its examinations and treatment strategies. It is important to accurately diagnose CAEBV enteritis and distinguish it from inflammatory bowel disease.
