Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • Dr. George W. Moran et al. in the Department of Urology at New York Presbyterian Hospital reported their results on the use of gamification in robotic simulation.1 Using experienced robotic surgeons acting as team coaches, they divided their residency program into teams and had them competing against each other using the da Vinci Skills Simulator (Intuitive Surgical, Sunnyvale, CA). Successful completion of Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) and Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) is currently required to apply for certification by the American Board of Surgery as their measurements are considered a valid reflection of performance in the operating room.5 The authors rightly admit that surgeons-in-training are motivated. Program directors should consider the culture of their respective programs carefully before introducing and during gamified educational opportunities.Conflict of interest The authors report no relationships that could be construed as a conflict of interest.Disclosures We have no disclosures.
