A dusty plasma is an ensemble of dust particles immersed in a plasma consisting of electrons, ions and neutrals. In this study, negatively charged SiO\+v\2\-v\ fine particles were generated and suspended in an SiH\+v\4\-v\/O\+v\2\-v\/Ar discharge. At high pressure (300 mTorr), the random fluctuations of the discharge and particle motions were suppressed. Coulomb solids with particle diameters from a few micrometres to a millimetre were observed. At low pressure, the coupling between particles and the background plasma caused large-amplitude, low-frequency fluctuations of the dusty plasma. (Original abstract-amended)
