• According to a recent report by Rudolf Wolff, the aluminium market is poised to move sharply higher again, with prices going beyond those reached before the October 1987 equity markets crash. An upward target of $2450 could be realised as the peak demand season approaches when stocks are low. The expiry of a labour contract at Kaiser, the unresolved dispute at Shawinigan, and the lack of any new significant production coming on stream in 1988 are further contributory factors. World consumption grew by 4% in 1986 and remains firm.
