• On March 9, 2020, the Governor of New Jersey declared a state of emergency and a public health emergency to contain the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. [...]on March 16, 2020, a social distancing executive order was published including the closure of all public, private schools, and nonessential businesses beginning on March 18, 2020. New Jersey became the #2 “hotspot” of the pandemic in the entire country, and our Medical Center has taken on the colossal challenge of caring for COVID-19 patients in unprecedented numbers. Since March 13, 2020, the ACS has published several detailed guidelines regarding surgical care. After the school and business closures took effect on March 18, 2020, we noted a marked change in injured patients admitted to our trauma center.
