  • A three-component mass model of the Galaxy, which consists of a modified exponential disk, a spherical inner bulge, and a massive outer corona, has been derived in an attempt to give a valid description of observed features over a wide range of galactic distances. The model shows a steep rise of the circular velocity close to the galactic center. The rotation-velocity stays reasonably constant outside the solar circle, requiring the addition of a massive dark corona. A variable disk-thickness is also a feature of this model. A two-step procedure deriving the potential field has been used. Both the Oort constants (Schmidt, 1965) of the model are in agreement with the recently observed values, and the local mass density is identical to Oort's (1965) value. If the model data are inserted into a relation given by the galactic warp theory of Bertin and Mark (1980), good agreement is found with the empirical data of Henderson (1979).
