Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • Discusses the Italian Arte Povera movement, focusing on the travelling exhibition Zero to Infinity: Arte Povera 1962-1972 held at Tate Modern in London (31 May-19 Aug. 2001), the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis (13 Oct. 2001-13 Jan. 2002), and the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles (28 April-22 Sept. 2002). The author examines Arte Povera and the reputations of the artists associated with it, including Michelangelo Pistoletto, Mario Merz, Jannis Kounellis, and Alighiero e Boetti. She considers the role of Italian collectors and the curator Germano Celant in highlighting the movement, and names fourteen artists as central to Arte Povera: Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero e Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Luciano Fabro, Piero Gilardi, Kounellis, Merz, Giulio Paolini, Pino Pascali, Giuseppe Penone, Pistoletto, Emilio Prini, and Gilberto Zorio. She assesses Arte Povera's influence, challenges Tate Modern s staging of the event, and describes the works of Pistoletto and Paolini in the exhibition. She argues that the exhibition demonstrates that Arte Povera was not a response to American minimalism, and describes the eventual decline of the movement and its continuation in other forms.
