Parasitic fauna of the flounder, Platichthyes flesus L., 1758 caught in the Sarıkum Lagoon Lake in Sinop (Turkey) and the occurrence of parasites in relation to host factors

Parasitic fauna of flounder, Platichthyes flesus L., 1758, caught monthly by net fishing in the Sarikum Lagoon Lake in Sinop (Turkey) between the period May 2003 - April 2004 were determined. A total of 296 flounder specimens were investigated for their parasites. The total length were measured of fish and the numerical distributions as site of infection of parasites were detected. A total of 14 parasite species including Trichodina domerguei Wallengren, 1897, T. jadranica Raabe, 1958, Riboscyphidia sp., Ambiphrya sp., Vorticella sp., Gyrodactylns flesi Malmberg, 1957, Ascocotyle sp., Paradilepis scolecina Rudolphi, 1935, Dichelyne minutus Rudolphi, 1819, Hysterothylacium aduncum Rudolphi, 1802, Capillaria sp., Spiroxys contortus Rudolphi, 1819, Neoechinorhynchus rutili Mueller, 1780 and Ergasilus sieboldi Nordmann, 1932 were identified. Trichodina spp. and Ascocotyle sp. were detedcted as dominant species with highest prevalence and intensity. Parasites were presented both formal and numerical. Trichodina jadranica, Gyrodactylus flesi and Spiroxys contortus were recorded as new records for the parasite fauna in Turkey.
