• DELHI The BJP has finally taken a decision on the controversial Madan Lal Khurana. Announcing his expulsion from the party for six years, Ram Naik, head of the party's disciplinary committee, stated that it was not so much the issues raised by the Delhi leader but the manner in which he went public while doing so that irked the party leadership. According to Naik, various news clippings and interviews given by Khurana were part of the evidence examined by the disciplinary committee before it recommended the expulsion. Khurana was served a showcause notice on August 29 after he publicly demanded that BJP President L.K. Advani apologise for the 2002 Gujarat riots. Though Khurana had asked for a 10-day extension to reply to the notice, the BJP did not give him more than a six-day leeway, claiming he had enough time to frame his response. The BJP has also been watching Khurana hobnob with Delhi Congress chief Ram Babu Sharma with a great deal of suspicion. The anti-Sheila Dikshit faction in the Congress is keen to rope in Khurana to woo Delhi's Punjabi lobby. But it remains to be seen if Khurana's Sangh credentials will pass muster at 10 Janpath.
