• Seven of them signed "A Christian Declaration", a document not meant to be public, but one which reveals their true political agenda. The Declaration equates rape and homosexuality as two comparable evils. Along with lesbians and gay men, it comdemns unmarried couples, divorce, abortion, the ERA, secular humanism, and sex education in schools. They support increased military spending, prayer in public schools and the teaching of the Bible's legend of creation instead of evolutionist theories. The Declaration says to political leaders, "we exhort you to remember that you are first servants of God, then servants of the people." On the day of the WFJ ...march, a group of organizations called the "April Alliance" sponsored a press briefing ...to present alternative views. Members of various religious faiths, of the National Gay Task Force, of NOW and of other groups were present. They addressed ideas of religious tolerance, definitions of Christianity, and defended the separation of church and state. A pentecostal theologian, James Tinney exclaimed "...I believe in sanctification, but not the kind that...sanctifies racism, classism, sexism, ageism, and homophobia in the name of God and the church."
