• By definition, temperature, potential temperature, and calculated geopotential height are provided at all levels.\n In Fig. 3, the change over time in the vertical resolution of soundings is depicted by way of time series of the average number of levels per year for the entire sounding, for the surface- to 850-hPa layer, and for the 300- to 70-hPa layer. The creation of the IGRA-derived dataset was the first step in a collaborative project involving the NOAA Air Resources Laboratory, University of Massachusetts, All-Russian Hydrometeorological Research Institute, and NCDC, whose aim is to produce robust climatologies of boundary layer parameters.
