• The author recalls from 2016 the news that two major Italian Renaissance paintings may be exported from the U.K. He Notes that a portrait by Pontormo, which the National Gallery in London had hoped to buy, was sold to an American collector. The Getty had expressed its desire to purchase the "Virgin and Child with Saint John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene" by Parmigianino. Rykner wonders whether the National Gallery will acquire the Parmigianino, which has had its export certificate refused.
