  • The previous investigations have been stated that monofilament gillnets are more efficient than multifilament trammel nets. There is not enough knowledge on catch efficiency of mono-multifilament and multifilament trammel nets. In this case, effects of catch efficiency of the mono-multi and multifilament trammel nets which had different mesh size and net materials were examined. This study was carried out on active fishing ground in Urla Harbour, Izmir Bay (Turkey) and on aquaculture ground in Kazikli Bay (Turkey). The mono-multi and multifilament trammel nets having 28, 30 and 32 mm bar mesh size were used in this study. The trammel nets having 28, 30 and 32 mm bar mesh size were connected to each other. The biomass was separated taken into consideration mesh size and net. The biometric measurements were performed for each species. It was found that catches of mono-multi and multifilament trammel nets were almost equal unless the fishing grounds were different. The aquaculture ground was found to be more productive (24%) than fishing ground. The fishing efficiency of fishing ground was lower than that of the aquaculture ground. It was found out that the catches of mono-multifilament trammel nets were lower (28%) than of multifilament trammel nets in the active fishing ground and higher (17%) in the aquaculture grounds. According to mesh size, it was found that catches of 28 mm bar mesh size nets were most effective. A total of 32 species were caught, the most abundant species was sea bream (Diplodus vulgaris L., 1758) with the rate of 53%. It was found that fishing ground was effective for catches of the mono-multi and multifilament trammel nets.
