• Gine et al comments on the paper published by Pirona et al reviewing the health responses implemented in Europe to the NPS phenomenon. Several strategies used by harm reduction projects that presents a real challenge to NPS phenomenon include peer education, information delivery and drug checking services. Also noted the multiple issues regarding drug checking services which should be considered when assessing the effectiveness of the services, wherein Pirona et al were unaware of or at least did not mention in their paper include the utility of drug checking services in monitoring drug markets, the added value of identifying discrepancies and monitoring adulteration.
