- We read with interest the recently published study by Chan et al. (1). The authors reported that dabigatran was associated with a surprisingly low risk of acute kidney injury and mortality compared with warfarin in a large Asian cohort either with or without a history of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, especially the reported differences in mortality (after on average 0.7 years) is rather implausible and is inconsistent with findings from randomized clinical trials, such as the RE-LY study (2)or its subgroup analysis based on patients from Asian countries (3) and a recent meta-analysis (4).
