  • The photochemical processes that encompass the production, destruction, and interconversion of hydroxyl and hydroperoxy radicals defines HO sub(x) chemistry. Results are presented from an investigation of HO sub(x) chemistry conducted in the remote marine boundary layer. The data were collected in the near vicinity of Christmas Island in the central tropical Pacific Ocean during a flight of NASA's PEM-Tropics A field program. Observational data are presented on OH, ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and CH sub(3)OOH at both the boundary layer and the buffer layer altitudes. Results are also presented from an application of two models, which were used to assess the level of agreement between theoretical predictions and observations.
