To enhance the magnetic property of LaFeO3 (LFO), a well known antiferromagnetic multiferroic, Ho3+ doping [La0.9Ho0.1FeO3 (LHFO)] is considered using solid state reaction method. The crystallographic phase is confirmed by Rietveld analysis of X-ray diffractograms. Raman spectra observed at room temperature also ruled out the formation of any impurity phase. Magnetisation vs. field loops of LHFO recorded at different temperatures in the range of 300–5K show considerable enhancement of magnetization of LHFO compared to that of LFO. MH loops recorded at low temperatures suggests antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic transition in LHFO which is also in agreement with the measurements of magnetisation vs. temperature curve under zero field cooled and field cooled conditions. Modulation of magnetic behaviour in LHFO compared to that of LFO will enhance the quality of application in electronic devices.
•Ho3+ is successfully doped in the site of La in LaFeO3.•Rietveld analysis and observed Raman spectra confirmed the phase formation.•Due to doping enhanced magnetic property is found at all temperatures down to 5K.•Antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition is found in doped LaFeO3.
