• Catalogue to a touring exhibition of installations, paintings, photocollages, and video performances by the Austrian artist Elke Krystufek (b.1970). There are three texts. In their foreword, Kasper König and Nollert describe the component parts of the installation Nobody Has to Know, and comment on the relationship established with the observer and Krystufek's methods of self-presentation. Paulo Herkenhoff discusses the personal and cultural implications of Krystufek's form of body art, studies her wide-ranging sources, and gauges the appropriateness of observer responses, which polarize into libertine or puritan. Elfriede Jelinek considers Krystufek's art as a contemporary variant on the tradition of death and the maiden couched in the form of a dialogue about power, identity, and gender between a princess and prince.
