• Fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) were obtained from the seed ethanol extract of Annona cornifolia, by transesterification reaction. FAME showed antioxidant potential by its scavenging effect on the DPPH radical, being much more potent than the commercial antioxidant BHT. FAME also presented cytostatic and cytocidal effects against three human tumor cell lines, using the sulforhodamine B assay. ► FAME was evaluated for antioxidant and cytotoxic activities. ► FAME presented cytostatic and cytocidal effects against the human tumor cell lines. ► FAME showed higher cytocidal effect than the etoposide, reference compound. ► FAME showed more antioxidant potential than the commercial antioxidant BHT.
