To deal with voltage sag problem of the stand-alone self-excited induction generator (SEIG) when loading, a voltage regulation system based on the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is designed to maintain a constant terminal voltage of SEIG under loading conditions. A nonlinear proportional-integral-differential (PID) algorithm is proposed to design outer loop voltage controllers in order to improve transient performance and adaptation ability of the voltage regulation system. Finally, an experimental platform is designed to study the voltage stability performance of the proposed system under loading dynamic and static load. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can improve loading capacity and voltage regulation performance of SEIG effectively, and terminal voltage can be regulated continuously, it has better dynamic, static performances and good robustness.
