Two experiments on rat exposure to lead were conducted. In one, rats were exposed to lead prenatally, and in the other, via maternal milk. In both cases male reproductive function at weaning and adulthood was examined. Observations made at 22- and 97-day old rats suggest that Sertoli cell function might be impaired by prenatal or lactational exposure to lead, leading to the slight decrease in sperm number in adulthood. However, this decrease did not affect the male rat fertility.
