- Highlights • Data were pooled across 2010–2012, years during which the vaccine composition was unaltered. • Vaccine effectiveness estimates were made by year and subtype and indicated no significant decline in vaccine effectiveness across years. • Estimates were highest against H1 and lowest against H3. • When using noninfluenza virus-positive controls VE estimates were slightly higher, perhaps owing to improvements in outcome sensitivity. • Comparison of estimates within and out of the season suggested little effect of the vaccine outside the season.
