• Lake Verbano on the Swiss-Italian border is a natural water body managed as a multipurpose reservoir. Management aims to satisfy the conflicting objectives of downstream water supply for hydropower generation and irrigation, and flood control. A multicriteria analysis procedure for conflict management is applied to three alternative policies: structural action, normative action, and control action. Decision makers from each nation ranked the alternatives by use of the multicriteria analysis.
